He was a good NorCal pro in the late '80s who was somewhat notorious for his "aggressive" style. He also had some success on the national scene as a privateer, earning national numbers on more than one occassion, I think. Anyhow, here is what he's up to now: www.deanvarni.com

I grew up racing in the same areas that ricky ryan and "Deano" raced, san jose, hollister, and lets just say that with deans personality, this sure does fit the bill!!! ha ha, just classic!

Dean was an animal. Actually voted one of the dirtiest riders in america one year. I witnessed a classic battle (or episode) at a trans cal at silver state in the fall of '96 where a brand new, young whippersnapper Pro by the name of Tyler Evans decided he didnt care much about matson's rep ...even though at the time tyler was 1/2 the size he is now.. ....well, after matson withdrew from the race (while it was still going) so he could stalk around the infield of the racetrack with hopes of taking tylers head off lets just say things got reeeeeeeeeeeal interesting and reeeeal tense for a little bit. The funny thing is to think how that brawl might stack up now 11 years later... Jeff Willoh won that day. the bonus question is what team did he ride for
