MX West Stead Night Race had 553 racers. People were pitted down outside the fence and all the way down the hill to the main road. I remember a time where there was 38 race weekends in the year and for the most part everyone was there at every race. Anything under a 350 turn out was unheard of. I dont think it is just tracks or the 10%. I think the economy has a huge thing to do with it. There was more than one person that said that they had to make a choice between keeping their house and racing. I also think people, as a whole, have changed. Society has changed. The division in Northern Nevada mx is there and I dont think it will ever be what it use to. I also think the kids involved in that have grown up. Racing is also exceptionally cut throat now too. Not as fun and family like as it use to me. That is just my observation and opinion. Those were the good ole days!

Well lets hope we can get the turn back to over 200 again.....!!! With 200 riders the tracks would at least break even and not loose money. Thanks for the info Greg... Looks like Stead was a success. Well over 300 riders.....!!!! Does anyone have a confirmed rider total from Steads Sunday race?

I talk to some parents out at the track and we all say the same thing we take are kid to the track $20 $25 practice day cool but when you start charging $5 per person to get in to watch your kid well if the hole family goes well that's an extra $15 $20 bucks then race day $35 plus $15 $20. just saying I know the track needs to make money to but like someone said times are tight.

Rider134 $10.00 per person for entrance was a little steep. We where only there on Sunday and it cost me $40.00 to get my family in. Then another $70.00 for my son and I to race. So I hear ya buddy. After fuel and food we had $200 race day.

Price of fuel has gone up, and a track like stead where they have to drive ten minutes to get water gets expensive. Also renting the equipment get costly. I don't like paying the gate fee as much as the next person, but you have to understand that no one will want to lose money to put on a race. I would rather pay that extra money and have a track than not have a race at all. Just my input!

Let’s see diesel fuel is 4 bucks a gallon, it’s a ton of work with lots of hours in equipment, equipment rental fees are up so is the hauling the equipment out to the track, it’s on BLM land and they get their cut, insurance… the list goes on and on… It’s not cheap!! I know I’m thankful that we just had a race at such an awesome place… The prices of every else continues to increase, we will be raising our prices for practice too at the Fern.

I spent quite a bit this weekend between gate fees practice and entry fees.
I had fun. And love stead. And would gladly do it all over again.
Thanks to everyone involved

I believe the gate fee is because BLM charges per person on the track, it is not Ty... Correct me if I am wrong Ty.... Not saying that all the other things don't add up as well

Charging more is better than canceling the race again.

Stead has always been a bit more....just because of the cost it takes to run and the BLM...

Take just the few comments and its not hard to get a conclusion. Our world has changed dramaticly in 5yrs .... The economy is for most in the toilet. And for those who have the few good or what they think is a good paying job are realizing your money goes no where as prices on everything is way up.....The only way i see to have bigger turn-outs at the races is to have fewer more high quality events for families....Stead is a perfect recent example....Everyone wanted a race there but in the past weather or what ever delayed it so when it finally happened everyone jumped on it... People just cant afford every weekend 2-4 hundred dollars.....simple economics 40% increase in costs with 40% decrease in income doesnt leave much to go around the world, similar thing happened in the 80s...Or as my grandpa useta say if ya cant pay cash for it you cant afford it.....That sucks, thats reality. Ron Harvey USA good day.

I agree MadMom. Everything gets more expensive every year. For the families that have multiple kids racing multiple classes, its certainly tough for a father to cough up 300 bucks for a race day not including gas and bike work. Unfortunately, with kids getting wicked fast and bikes getting even faster, the riskfactor has increased dramatically. I remember in the two smoker days when someone got hurt "bad" it was a snapped collar bone or broken arm. Now people are being paralyzed and put in comas. I remember the MxWest days on my 50 and just the little peewee class was at least a full gate if not split up into multiple gates. As Ron said, everyone is making less money and everything costs more. I wish things could go back to how they were, but that happening is highly unlikely.
