To all of our SMRA members, supporters and families: After very long discussions, SMRA has made the difficult decision NOT to have a SMRA Fall Nevada State Championship series for 2014. Unfortunately, we have lost two important tracks. Honey Lake and Hawthorne have closed. That leaves SMRA with two tracks. The OTHG at Fernley and the club in Winnemucca. IT is impossible to put on a quality series with two tracks. Hopefully the winter will bring changes. If you have any question or comments, please contact any board member SMRA IS NOT DISSOLVING! Hope to see you in the spring Yours in the Sport www.sierramotocross.com

Well not that long ago the entire series was at the Sandbox. Why not do that this fall so there will be a series then explore other options. That way those that want to race wouldn't have to go over the hill.

That way those that want to race wouldn't have to go over the hill. Dan, I believe the "series" you are talking about was The three race "Sand Master Series in Fernley in 2008. It was sanctioned by SMRA and The Nevada Old Timers and the Over the Hill Gang hosted it. It was not a large series with the great prizes that SMRA is known to give out... because of Clubs and Promoters paying for them. The same will happen on Labor Day at Winnemucca....They have a 3 race "club sponsored" series. SMRA is sanctioning it but NOT doing the awards. The Winnemucca club is doing all of that and I have heard some good things are in the mix!! Riders don't have a "hill" to go over if they go to Winnemucca! Fliers will arrive at your mailboxes tomorrow with all the goings-on in Winnemucca!!! Hope to see you there!

Why don't all the promoters with there different tracks pull together to make a series? We don't have a lot of tracks.. No sense in not putting the few we have together so we can have a series.. Everyone loves stead, and everyone who could would go to every track there was a race at.

rogers 344. Winnemucca, with the help of the City is having a small 3 race series. It is SMRA sanctioned which means all rules and classes will be followed. I hope to see you there ! Practice will be Friday...Saturday is Race 1 and Sunday is Race 2. The town has a ton of things happening too.

Super sad to hear HL closed their doors. Best track I have ever ridden.

Honey lake rocked but I never saw as large of a turn out as the track deserved. My son raced Winnemmucca this weekend for the first time and I thought the track was great. Long, fast, big but safe jumps, and lots of sandy corners to rail.
The club did a heck of a job putting the race on. Even with the wind they kept it pretty wet,and it seemed to be pretty well organized. It's a shame the turn out wasn't bigger.

We stopped going to Honey Lake when they stopped having Sunday MX races. Not as many people can race on Saturday as they can on Sunday. The final nail in their coffin was when I went there for the last OT national that was held there and saw that they had ruined the great track that they once had by putting in a bunch of crappy jumps and a Mickey Thompson line that effectively chopped the width of the track in half. That was the last straw for me. I decided not to race there ever again. It is sad, I loved that track when it opened. I went to every race there for years. I even won my class at the last summer series that they ever held. Hell, I even skipped some Fernley races to go to Honey Lake.
