Hi All,
Normally I do not post often, however, I have had quite a few calls and nothing is worse than giving a racer "I dunno" as an answer to his/her questions.
First of all, I would like to address the following quote. "Last fall SMRA pulled the plug on its fall motocross season." It was written by local reporter Dan McGee. SMRA did NOT "pull the plug" and if Dan would have researched his information, you racers would be given facts instead of suppositions. SMRA has always (9 years) been a local sanctioning group run by volunteers that sets forth rules and keeps points for member riders and clubs. SMRA does NOT put on the races....but you already know that.
The real reason for this post is to have someone with authority give real answers to a few questions.
This is being advertised as a "series". What are the series rules? Is anyone keeping results and if so...where are they posted? In the past, SMRA Series' had the rules on the flyer that the rider/members got in the mail. Do you have to make all three races to be eligible for series awards? Will there be awards?
I don't think these are hard questions and that is why I am asking for clarification.
Not many riders get on this site anymore but if word gets around that the answers are here.....it might help competitors understand what is going on.
At an OTHG race, a rider showed his SMRA card at sign-up and was told "Throw that card away, they aren't throwing races anymore". SMRA has NEVER thrown a race! See where I am coming from? I even heard with my own ears that its "ok to mix classes...SMRA changes their rules all the time!" I guess if you say it, that makes it true. Sad. Our racing around here is scary pathetic and we all need to ban together and make sure the clubs and promoters are supported. This trickle down effect will help keep shops going and our riders get faster.
Lets hope that we don't have a disaster like last year when the promoters walked away from any series awards because they didn't have enough riders and they had no money.
I am not writing this to start anything..just want to have some answers for the riders and parents that are participating! My family included.
I have devoted 50 years to this sport and I plan on being around at least 50 more! See ya at the track!
