I typically go for some punk rock, but not much of the straight-ahead Pennywise or Sum 41 stuff. Instead I like more melodic varieties (The Clash's London Calling is my current favorite.) Occasionally I'll also come across a radio song by The Foo Fighters or Beck that sticks with me when I ride.
There are a few hip-hop acts like Atmosphere and Sage Francis that are good for raising the pulse, but I can rarely remember the lyrics while also remembering to shift.
What's your soundtrack? (Warning: if you say Britney, it may hurt your starting-line cred.)

Motorhead or Metallica are my favs, not into the death metal stuff, but some good fast heavy metal is nice.

Good song for a two-stroke ride? Flight of the bumblebees. Not as effective with four-strokes though.

I just put on a continuos loop of "Ride of the Valkyries" loud enough to here over my borrowed bike. It also doubles as a symphony chick magnet, reels them in for miles.

Slayer, Exodus, Fight, M.O.D., Black Flag, Megadeth, Rammstein, The first three Metallica albums, early Queensryche. All the same stuff that calms me down so I can sleep at night!

Depends for me. For a video - hard rock, heavy metal, alternative, etc - no question but, for a pre-ride mood adjustment I like to listen to something mellow. I get worked up enough just riding and to listen to music that gets me even more amped just becomes an adrenaline overdose. I can't think, relax or concentrate as well. Kind of like drinking an energy drink before a race, just not the best idea. I like to be relaxed at the gate or during practice so I can think about what I am doing in a relatively calm calculated manner. I find that I do a lot better on the track and don't crash or get frustrated as easy. Just my two cents.
