I am going to run a marketing campaign to help ALL Northern Nevada MX Tracks. We need to bring in riders from Northern California and even farther if we can. We need the 200 plus rider turn outs again....!!! Please like my FB page: www.facebook.com/pages/Northern-Nevada-MX-Tracks/302790623167264?ref=hlAnd share this page on your facebook page to help spread the news. And if you are racing and have pictures of videos please post them or send me the links. Or if you just want to comment positive things about our local tracks please do so. Thanks....... Dave Bauer.....

FYI, local race turnouts were 600+ riders a few years ago. Those were different times for sure.

Dave I think sometime around 2003 there was a race at Fernley that had like 550+ entries. Back in the MXWest days it was consistently 200+ entries. Full gates in all classes and split gates in a lot of beginner and junior races.

Well lets hope we can get the turn back to over 200 again.....!!! With 200 riders the tracks would at least break even and not loose money. Thanks for the info Greg...

Robert what year had 600 racers show up? 2003-2005 were big years. I believe the first race of the year at Fernley in 2004 came in at just above 600 riders, but there were a few races that had 500+, and less than 300 riders was a slow day during that era. But those were stronger economic times -- you could tell since half the people at the races had a massive Toy Hauler and four bikes. Two hundred riders at every race would be a great start for today.

Thanks for starting the FB page. There is some cool info on the OTMX site listing tracks. I don't know how to update it, but maybe some of that info can be used also.
We can get the numbers back up. We all love track time and practicing, but its just not the same as having a full gate of guys that are similar speeds.
We all know several guys with bikes in their garage that are not out riding them at the track. Ask them what the local tracks could do to earn their business again. With any luck the social networking will help bring some guys back out to the track.

I have talked to all my friends that used to race and only ride now. Many of them used to be in the Gang and in the Old Timers clubs here in CA. They don't go to any races because they don't like the tracks. They all say the same thing. They don't like all the supercross type jumps and they miss the days of old school MX when racing was about corner speed and not about how big a jump is on the track. They can't afford to get hurt so they gave up on racing and bought dual purpose bikes so they they can just ride to the trails, ride all day and ride home. They won't even go to practice days at all the local tracks here in the valley like E street, Riverfront, MMX, Argyll or the pay track at Prairie City for the same reason, plus they don't like riding with all the kids (riders under 40). They all stay in the parks like Mammoth Bar, Prairie City, Carnegie and Hollister Hills. You may think that's no big deal but when you stop to think that every one of them has two or three kids that are not going to the races because their dad is not going, it adds up in a hurry. It comes down to this. If you build a track for the 10% of the riders in your area you better be able to make a living on only the 10% of the riders in the area coming to your track. I have a season pass to ride the state parks here in CA. If you think that the riders are not riding you are mistaken. The parks are over flowing with riders every weekend. I go first thing in the morning and leave around noon when it gets so crowded that I am worried about getting into a head-on crash with someone out on the trails. I am sure that in Nevada there are lots of ex-racers that are just riding in the desert now because they feel the same way.

Do you like the jumps at the West track of Fernley? Carson had big jumps and that place was packed every race. And MMX's sand track has some of the most mellow jumps around. There is a big difference between riding OHV parks and racing MX tracks. Always has been. And always will be. There is no doubt there are way more recreational riders than racers. That is a given. Race tracks are for racers, not recreational riders. So I totally agree with you. If you don't like jumping then a MX track is not for you. All MX tracks down in So Cal have the same type of jumps Exit 28 does. Actually they have even bigger jumps. What I am trying to do is bring more racers to our local races. And that mean racers to all are local tracks. Each track is suited for different riders. Some will like 28. Some will like Fernley. But they won't know if they don't come up and ride......!!!

Kind of a bummer a parent might keep their child from racing because they don't like a track...
