Yes we are in a recession and times are hard, which brings us to the purpose of this thread we need more riders from other regions. Is it fair to say that if we had the turn outs of 03 04, of which I am too young to know and wasn't racing then, we could lower said prices and fees etc.? And I myself have always wondered what the few guys that own a track/ run it earn on a raceday? It is hard work moving dirt and keeping the ball rolling and their work shouldnt be a charitible notion but I used to race Estreet and saw the owner rolling around in his rigs with nice wheels and had his own equipment and had full time employees

It is always difficult to find the balance in motocross. It does cost money to have a track and prep it. Also there are issue of liability that are always common. There simply is not much money in running a track unless you really are in a perfect location. The Reno area does seem to have a great deal of riders for the population size. I would like to help improve motocross there as much as possible. I am new here but would like to offer my time and services to help.

I feel its a combination of problems here. One is the economy, its in the toilet and does not appear to be getting better. Two, is the danger of getting injured. The tracks have become much more jump oriented which does scare alot of the older riders away. Myself I roll over most with very little air, I am not out to impress anyone with air time, I just want to get around the track and finish. I remember back years ago when there was alot of older racers out there that raced much more. Now, you dont see as many on the tracks. Yes its the economy but its also the tracks. Yes they could run the track, but at the same time egos get in the way. They can go ride the dessert and not have to appear that they are nervous in front of others by rolling over jumps they dont want to risk it on. Myself, I dont care, I will roll over them. But I have talked to many older riders that just said forget it.
I feel the sport has gotten better, and worse at the same time. It caters more to the younger gen that has the guts and no fear attitude which is fine. But at the same time the older riders, the ones that have the money to spend, get scared away from the sport by the very nature of the tracks. I dont know the answer, there may not be one, but its a combination of problems that are at work here. As far as what track promoters/owners make, well they are in it to make money thats the bottom line, thats what they do, if they dont make money then they will not do it so you cant blame them.

Yeah I am about the same. Love to ride and even race some but sometimes it does get out of control. I am not sure if its the high prices of racing that is driving people away but it is not helping. Years ago you could go race for like $25 and that was it! Now it is like $20 gate entry, $30 race entry, $35 membership, $15 transponder rental, and $100 rv hookup. Yeah that can be to much......................
However I will say the thing I do not like about racing these days is how many classes their are. Rate track owners will tell you privately it is all about money for them. However, it is a bummer because the race day or weekend is just to long! The track gets crushed and it just makes for a long weekend. I like the races to end around 2:30 pm and we all go home! I like things simple................I do not care if I win because there are tons of classes for every different group or age.
