I have an 05 Honda 450. The frame tab that mounts the exhaust has been welded once and is now broken again. Is this a common problem on those bikes? I was planning on having Chester weld it up, but I could fab a different type of mount - maybe something off the subframe. Any of you Honda guys familiar with this problem?

I never had trouble with that on my CRFs, but I bet Chester could create a set-up that's much stronger than stock.

Thanks. Any other Honda guys out there? It looks like in 07 Honda changed to a subframe mount. That's why I thought breaking the tab off might have been a common problem. I'm a little worried about putting welding heat into the main frame again.

I too have an 05. No problems with mine and have been looking online for others with the same problem. Idk about welding but if you're thinking about using a different subframe our 05 subframe is a one-off. No other years match up whether it's the muffler or head pipe, mounting locations and/or bends of head pipe. I'd guess you have to re-weld.

Thanks guys. I didn't find much online either, so I guess a break like this isn't that common. If I can't come up with a simple altenative mount I'll just have the tab welded back on. Wish the factories would build some flex into their.exhaust mounts. We're having trouble witt our Kawasaki pipe breaking in the same place also. (Luckily not the frame on that one)!

I have owned Honda's most of my 40+ years of riding and have never seen this problem. Based on what you are describing I would look at other areas that may be contributing to this problem. It sounds like something is creating undue preasure on the mount. I would look at all your motor mounts and make sure they are tight and not broken, make sure the subframe is tight no cracks or anything that is creating flex that shouldn't be there. Just a thought.
