Larry, there isnt enough room for you to get your bike into 5th gear! Maybe you should just ride it up and down I-80 or regear it and put 74 tooth rear sprocket on. Then you could prolly start in 5th gear and never have to shift!

We will have some new sections that will see some new jumps ...and we do have a spot identified that can accomodate one warp 3 straightaway ..
Do you guys (other than larry) want ONE mega high speed straight ?

Straight away would be great. Like the two lane options into one lane kinda like supercross has had lately. Winnemucca track had it too. Seems cool and gives options. Either way Fernley is great. What are you guys thinking about for little guys? Run on big track or separate 50 track?

Sparky, at this weekends OTMX International the 50's support class will run from the main gate and use a cutoff.
For the following weekend, SMRA Rnd 3/ Club MX775 Rnd 2 we will most likely run a dedicated 50cc track

Always bad mouthing the jump infested tracks. Starting to sound like a broken record. Sorry Larry, but it's what the people want to see, it's what the kids want to do. Maybe flat track would be more your speed, i don't know, just a suggestion. I'm sure your an educated man Larry, it doesn't take a degree in rocket science to know that boosting a 230 lb dirt bike is anything BUT boring.

So is it a waste of time for me to bring my kid down to race this weekend in the 85cc class. sounds like this is for the old guys. Not saying nothing bad but it looks like you don't care if kids show up to race. just asking so I don't waste my time and gas coming down. again not trying to say anything negative.

Bring the kids! They've made some accommodations like a few open classes.

When Larry says "boring" it equals, "too much work to roll over them".

collord216; big bike beginners wil ride in the "big bike open jr" Support class high44.. to say "looks like you don't care if kids show up to race" IS a bit negative and if Old Timers didnt want kids to show up, race and have fun there would be no support class. You are right in that it is an Old Timers International where +40 riders come from Canada, Oregon, AZ, WA and CA..and its a 33 year old event that truely represents the "OG" of the Fern and Northern NV motocross. As I wrote, as it relates to the kids and "support classes", its just a race for fun. A wet and groomed track at the Fern is NEVER a "waste of time" my friend .. hope we see you guys.

Club775, is it okay if I chime in? I just wanted to make an attempt at offering some historical insight for some of our newer mx'ers who may not know why these type of races are held. Sorry for the length.
In the mid-1960's (yes almost 50 years ago) motocross came from Europe, where it was born in France, to the United States. Many of us old-farts raced this new sport that soon took off like wildfire, among what was then primarily a teenage participation group. Many of our parents wanted nothing to do with this new type of racing and wanted us to concentrate on off-road, if we wanted to "ride in the hills and the mud". Tracks, by definition of the sport, were laid out over natural terrain, between 1 and 1.5 miles in length and had to be at least 10' wide, most being between 10' & 20' wide and the race would be run in all weather conditions. Initially the AMA was the primary sanctioning body throughout most of the country, as it was already an established sanctioning body in off-road, road-racing and flat track racing.
As land availability became an issue, track owners were forced to build tracks on flatter ground, and to make up for the lack of natural terrain, man-made jumps were added. Also about this time two other events occurred, the advent of Indoor Motocross (today's Supercross) and long-travel suspension came into being. As the next generation of mx'ers came up, the tracks went from hills (see old pics of the Carnegie Trans-Am for a good example) into more of what we see today and still refer to as motocross.
What about us "old farts". Well back then, the AMA Sportsman class (15-29) was the last class in the line on your AMA card. Once an mx'er turned 30 years of age, they were said to be "Over the Hill". Many then turned to full-time Enduro or Desert racing to satisfy their need to compete. However, too many of them wanted to continue the sport they helped launch (by their sheer numbers in this country) and so two organizations were born. One the "Over The Hill Gang" (better known as the OTHG or the Gang) for +30 and up, year old racers, and two, the International Old Timers MX, for +40 year old and up racers. The International Old Timers (OTMX) consists of clubs that seek to hold their races on natural terrain tracks, some being AMA National Tracks, and race a 5-moto format over two-days of racing. As Club775 stated, the annual OTMX Race Schedule begins in Arizona, travels through numerous other states, holds two rounds north of the U.S. border and concludes at Glen Helen.
These clubs, while providing "Support" classes for non-club members (due to age) were created to cater to a bit of an older crowd, still desiring to race for a series championship, and who remember the beginnings of this great sport and the type of riding that we grew up with as the sport grew into what it is today. So at these events the focus is on the "old farts" just like the focus is on the young riders at a typical mx race. Watch the smiles on the faces of sixty and seventy year-old riders, dicing for 6th place in their fifth moto of the weekend, and you will see why these type of races are held. While you young airborne flyers are at it, pray that you will be healthy enough at their age to being racing still.
I'd like come watch.
