Fallon, Fallon, Fallon……What a great time with some great racing! I think this may have been the first year it wasn’t a thousand degrees there, man it normally really hot there.
Most people don’t understand the amount of work and effort that can go into a series or an event such as Fallon or Gardnerville. There are many people that don’t any praise and some that do, but here goes a call out to them…(this is in no order).
1. Kim, a special thanks goes out for all the years of hard work over the years! Doing cards, points, scoring, flyers and all the nights of hard thankless work, THANKS! You will be missed…
2. Mikey Track, thanks for all the long hours building fun, challenging and safe tracks.
3. The new MXwest racing board members, nice work and thanks!
4. Phyllis Mason thanks for getting everything in order and making G-ville and Fallon into a true arenacross format.
5. Kenny Bell, I’m not sure where to start with Kenny. Lets talk about the countless hours in the water truck, the traveling around passing out flyers and talking up the series and the events in it, lastly his showmanship doing jumping and getting the spectators rev’d up during the freestyle show…WOW, excellent work and thanks for all the great hang out time!
6.Mike May, I don’t ever remember seeing this man sit down…ever! From sun up to long after it was down this guy was on the move, riders meeting, getting the flaggers rounded up and in place, calling riders into the starting gate, dropping the gate, listen to racers issues, having to make unpopular decisions, and washing your kid’s bike in-between motos and doing everything else…..Thanks!
7. The NMXD crew, you know who you are, the hard work that was done was quite evident in how smooth all the events went off. From the ladies in the scoring trailer to the flaggers, to the guys that pick up the trash….Thanks!
8. O’ Ty, hummmmm lets see where do I start? Most people don’t even have a clue how many directions he gets pulled in during a single event or how many hours from the start of the idea of having an event to the end of the finish product or how I am his toughest critic. I have know Ty for a long time and I can tell you without a reasonable doubt that he truly has the best interest at heart for the sport and the riders. He is not afraid to go out on a limb and seek out new venues or sponsors or a way to bring a high level competition to our area. His passion for this sport has made him do this. He also probably get blamed for more crap and most of it he has nothing to do with or our out of his hands its almost funny, but is sad. I’m not saying he is an angel, I’m saying he puts a lot of hard work and effort into his events to insure a quality event. Thru think and thin he’s there working and trying to make thing happen. These last four events have proven so! I’m not blowing smoke up his ass either because if it sucked, I’d be calling out on it…..So, I say thanks for all the hard effort and work!
A special thanks goes out to the series sponsors….Coors Light, Wired energy drink, Big Valley Honda, Michael Cycle Works, Michaels Reno power sports, RMS, Jet Force , PPS, NMS, Fly racing, Pro Circuit, Dragon, Smith, Parts Unlimited, Ahern rentals, Wilson Construction, Renner Fallon Honda. When given the chance support these sponsors, remember they supported you!
Let’s get to the event…..
There was some great racing to be had….A couple guys really stood out to me in the amateur class and please keep in mind that I didn’t get to watch all the racing. Clayton Peterson and Dakota May were hauling around that track, they had that place dialed. Next was Chris Grant, Brian Bodden and Adam “the non-rev’r” Conway all had some great rides to that equaled good finishes.
The Pro class was stacked with talent….Jimmy Nelson, Nate Tiearney, Jimmy Hazel, Jeff Willow, Tiger Lacey, Jimmy Hazel, Mike Mason, Matt Buyten, Robert Beaupre, Donnie Weber, Dustin Turner, Tommy Jean and others that I didn’t know. All provided great racing and good entertainment.
Battle Mountains own Jimmy Nelson was on fire! You amateur riders need to watch this guy anytime he is around, his corner speed is truly amazing. Entrance and exit speed is something to watch and learn from.
Nate Tiearney and Jimmy Hazel were quite a site to see go through the whoop, these to can seriously hall ass thru some whoops. And the whoops at Fallon were gnarly.
Nate had a rough go Saturday night, he a big get off in going into the whoop section. He got cross rutted going into them and got thrown to the ground hard. But was able to shake it off and but together some good main events.
Jimmy struggled a little Friday and most of Saturday, but was able to but all behind and get second in the 250 main on Saturday night. Good job Jimmy! Great Ride!!!
Another that needs a special call out is Mike Mason who was racing a CR125 two stroke and running forth in the main until his tongue got caught in his front brake. To even make it a little better he hasn’t raced in three years! It was nice to see him back out there rippin it up.
Next is Robert Beaupre, let see…he broke the weirdest part in the world on Friday pro practice without falling, and got a flat on Saturdays practice or before it. I’m sure on Saturday he got more track time than any other pro! But yet when it came time for the main he was able to but together a very respectable finish.
The last thing was without a doubt the most exciting……the freestyle show! Fans were treated to one of the best freestyle shows ever! We had no other the P. Mudd do his back flip which without a doubt very cool! He was like the Energizer bunny, if he crashed trying he was back up going for it again. Next was Kenny Bell, he was throwing some serious style. Kenny is not only a hard worker but a showman to and was never over shadowed be anybody. What I mean by that is there was Mike Mason and Matt Buyten fresh off the X-games. In which both of them brought home a medal. Matt won the step-up. Mike got third in the freestyle. Matt was throwing out some cool tricks, the stripper, heal clickers, the corps. Ect….Mike was throwing out the back flip over the big jump and the crowed went crazy over it! He was throwing some other stuff and I have to be honest I don’t really know the names but they were defiantly something to see. Between all four of them I am lost for the words that could describe how cool this was, they put on an excellent show!
If you weren’t there you defiantly missed out!
Thanks for all who help me have a good birthday!
Layne
P.S. Thanks, Tina!
