Roger #48N(an old timer) crashed really hard today at Fernley and was care flighted out. He's at Renown in critical condition. The nurse said it would be ok for him to have visitors in a couple of days. Our thoughts and prayers go out to him and his family and if they need anything please let us know. Pita and Kim

Will someone please give me an update on Roger's condition. I'll include it in my racing report for Monday's Daily Sparks Tribune. Thanks.

Just a little reminder - I would not post anything in the newspaper, the insurance companies are getting keen on the "google" page looking for riders/results/injuries. Claims are getting denied because of "extreme sport activities".

Dakota: What you've touched on is something that any journalist faces, the need to inform. I'd still like to find out how he's doing but if you notice in my race reports I do not mention a rider's name. When Amanda was hurt I never mentioned her name until I first spoke with her father. Still, if you are at a public sporting event, well you're exposed and if anything happens you can be mentioned. Due to the Hippa law, another cluster our Congress passed without thinking, I have stopped mentioning names and only ask the medics if they had anybody transported or if someone is taking themselves to the hospital. That keeps me from getting them in trouble. I think the insurance problem needs to be addressed. When I cover an IKF race, my signing in puts my under their insurance umbrella. At every race I usually sign a release and you should read the ones we sign at professional races. It might be time for the AMA or some body to step up and offer insurance at events that competitors can get for a modest cost. I know one local driver, he races a pro stock, that anted up the expense of getting insurance so if he's hurt his family won't be. I think riders might want to think this out and if someone is in the insurance business they might want to look into this. And I'd still like to know Newman's condition. See you at the races.

I've never met Roger, but that sounds really serious. I hope he's improving now.

I just went through this years and last years membership, and the Nevada Old Timers does not have Roger Newman or the number 48n listed as a member.

I'm confused. Not trying to make any point. Is the name wrong or the number? If it is a club member, I'd go see him. Thats my point.

I have known Rodger for several years. He used to be a member of the Sierra chapter of the Gang as I was. He moved to N Nevada a couple years ago. I have talked to him a few times over the last couple years and he was interested in joining the Gang and Old Timers. I don't know if he ever did join or not. He is a real nice guy and I called Renown and talked to his parents. They had come up from CA to be with him. They said he will be in the hospital for several weeks. I told them that I had just gotten out of Renown and how great a hospital it is. They didn't tell me how bad Rodger is but it didn't sound good to me. I told them I would call back in two weeks to see how Rodger is doing. I will be praying for Rodger as we all should.
