Hello everyone, Dakota's son here, telling you of my little story of riding my dirt bike in the North Valley's. For the past four years, I have ridden my dirt bike to the Stead track along Lemmon Valley Drive. Many times I would leave from the Pfeifer residence or where the Weicher's track use to be, head over the hills, cross Lemmon Valley Drive to ride on the bike path to the Stead track. No problems, right? Last Thursday, I took the same route, rode at Stead (my mom followed me) and then headed back to the Pfeifer residence. I rode along Lemmon Valley Drive, crossed over, went past some houses, realized that my friend who was following me in a Jeep could not "cut thru the hills" so I headed back toward Lemmon Valley Drive and then up Patrician Drive. BUT THEN.....a GMC pick up pulled up with two guys who where just happening to be looking for an "armed and dangerous fugitive" in the North Valleys area. They said my riding was so crazy that it was more important to ticket me, my friend and another fellow MX friend, than to catch the fugitive. The two guys were off duty deputy's participating in the SWOT patrol that night. My mom went to the Sheriff's office the next day to discuss the matter and they informed her that there has been sooooo many complaints about dirt bike rider's in the North Valley's and Washoe Valley, that all officer's are to immediately arrest all law breakers, have their bikes confiscated, and hauled off to either Jan Evans Center or Parr Boulevard. So I got ticketed for riding a dirt bike without a license, riding within 500 feet of residential area (apparently, riding across Lemmon Valley Drive along the bike path is too close to the houses), and reckless driving because I popped a wheelie up Pfeifer's driveway!!! So here are the rules and and learn from me??? www.washoesheriff.com/atvrules.pdf

The Sheriff's Department even has purchased enduro bikes so they can catch the offenders that take off over the hills. Heck, I let them come straight to the house......

haha id love to see them chase me.
they chased a buddy of mine which ended in a bad wreck
my buddy hit the side of a loader and tore his ear off his head and broke his back
so i guess just steer clear of enforcement and laws...its a bummer the good ol days are coming to an end...in my housing development you cant even start your bike without the cops showing up minutes later...

Personally I'd help the deputy's catch some of the SOB's that rip up my street. Idiot's ruin it for all of us. If ( and I'm saying if ) your one of the guys that rides faster than slow second gear up the street than you are making things worse. Every time someone fly's up a street they are giving the non riding public a reason to complain, which hurts all of us. That being said it sucks that our law enforcement is being forced to pay attention to dirk bikers when there are way more important things going on. Please keep in mind what the deputies enforce often is dictated by the complaints they receive. In other words if they get 10 calls on one dirt biker and 1 call on some kids spray painting guess what they're going to look for. Davis I hope your friend is doing well but I have to say things like that are exactly what the non riding people key on when they complain. If we want our rights we have to fight for them but we also have to behave.

This is bull. That sucks Chris! I live on Lemmon Dr. and trust me dirt bikes are no problem. When you start to get close to houses it turns to gravel so there is no dust. I have even checked with my neighbors and they dont mind that bikes ride by. I even have a 50 track that I ride on and I have never got a complaint. Most of the time they watch!!! Yeah I have seen them on the dual sports dont worry they can't go fast. haha. ( thats doesn't mean try to run from them) although it is very possible. But watch out they do call for back up!

Yea, I got hit up for the same thing! ITS SO RETARDED!!!! I was pulled over on my old CL175 and got nailed for no license, insurance, registration, 500 feet from a residence etc. Luckily, the cop used to be my baseball coach and just put it as a warning (no charge at all) and then said I could ride it home! I got pulled over in my Ranchero for Reckless driving once too... but thats another story. I actually had a cop (who said he also rides MX) wait for me to come off the trail and onto the road. He then pulled me over while I was getting off the bike to push it, and then said he just did it cause he had too... and refused to ticket other riders, even if he pulled them over 10 times in a day. He said the trail was too close to a residence.... For anyone who doesn't know, that 500 foot thing also counts IN YOUR OWN YARD WITH ANY MOTORIZED VEHICLE! Go-karts, etc... Yet lawn mowers are fine! lol I have NEVER followed or respected that law... and never will. I will push my bike to the dirt usually though... since its like 500 feet from a trail lol. I could go right out my backyard

After Mustang today, I counted 4 bikes on Patrician Drive in Lemmon Valley, where were the big cops? I also know of those who have give MX riders a bad name when they rode thru the Quik Stop car wash in Golden Valley, the Wendy's drive-thru, did spin--out circles at 7-11. Hmmmmm, they did not get caught. Oh well, ya win some, ya lose some.

I'm a cop in another county that's going through the same thing. We get calls everyday from people complaining about dirtbikes riding up and down the roadway. Now we don't have a 500 foot ordance and even if your on the dirt on the side of the road, we leave you alone. We are having a few guys that are screaming up the roads and now we have a standing policy: ticket the riders for everything and tow the bikes. Personally I haven't done that yet but I have supervisors on my back about all of it. You might not agree with the laws but if you push the limit, you will lose in a bad way

I lived in sunvalley a few years ago and my buddys and i would ride from my house to the dirt. We had to ride on the streets to get there and we would get chased almost every time by the cops. We got away with it for about 2 months till one day we where on are way out and thay started to chased us again. We blew a couple stop signs with out looking (stupid i know) my buddy got hit by a car. So not only did all of us get arested, bikes inpounded and huge tickets he spent 2 weeks in icu and had to pay for the guys car that hit him.Hard lessons do suck!!! I wish i didnt have to load up every time i want to go ride but its not worth it!!!If you live in the valleys I think thay should let us ride at a slow speed till you hit the dirt
