Just wanted to throw a big thanks out to those riders that posted up behind me and covered my ass after I unloaded down the back straight away.... and to the old boys in the truck along the sidelines that helped comfort me and settle me down.. I ended up breakin 4 ribs a half a dozen spinal wings and punctured my lung... when my air didn't come back and i tasted blood in my throat i decided i better take that ride in the meat wagon... hopefully I will be getting out of Renown today.. Anyway I just wanted to say thanks again!! It was a bitchin day though!!! - Emmet Ramirez - Rammm19!

Wow! I saw you getting hauled off, but you didn't look too bad! You definitely took it like a champ.
I hope you get well soon!

Glad to hear you're OK. The flagman didn't seem to know what he was doing, so I'm glad that things didn't go worse. Take care of those injuries--I had almost the same stuff when I crashed awhile back, and things seem to be turning out OK three months later.
By the way, can somebody have a more in-depth talk with these flaggers before they send them out? They often don't seem to realize it, but that faded piece of fabric on a stick that they're holding is the only thing that will keep an already injured rider from being pummeled. When I'm out on the track taking photos, I feel like I spend way too much time urging flaggers to do their job properly.

That was a knarly crash. There was a moment of confusion by the flagger on which side of the track to flag, but ultimately he did his job and prevented further injury to the rider. I would say the the outcome was good considering how hard the crash was. greg

I would say the the outcome was good considering how hard the crash was. greg True, but I was the first rider through and the flagger was really passive in his motions. It was hard to tell if a rider was down right after the jump (which was pretty much the case) or if he was just warning us of something far ahead. I like my flaggers to be a bit more aggressive when a rider is down immediately ahead. Not that I blame the flagger himself--he was a young guy and was certainly doing his job as best he knew how. But as a rider, I judge the urgency of a crash situation by how urgent the flagger is, and I think a little more assertiveness on his part would have been fit the situation better.

;)Robert, you make a viable point and with the new season starting it would be a good idea to "Re-school" our flaggers on good procedures and attitudes.............both myself as President of the OTMX and Jim as President of the OTHG will enforce the requirements of flagging, give correct information to new flaggers and assure seasoned flaggers are up to "par".........................Rooster..........

What he said^. I schooled the young kids and we were desperate for flaggers. The race director was at the mini track trying to placate some of the mini dads and I had just come back from town. I ran over towards the Medics screaming but it took a minute to get their attention. Just so everyone knows, and this is no excuse, but the flagger is not supposed to help a downed rider at any time, he is just supposed to wave the flag to let on coming riders know there is a problem. Riders are not suppose to pass or jump in the area of a yellow flag. We will take your suggestion to hart we're committed to improving our management of the track and welcome any suggestions.
