RacerX- There may be more bad news on the horizon. While we were in meetings there, a staffer mentioned a “growing concern” with tear-offs, of all things, though he referred to them as “discardable lenses for cycling goggles” and explained that because these things were “not biochemically degradable and basically stay there forever,” it was of a concern to the Environmental Protection Agency! Sometimes when it rains, it pours….

Maybe they should look into making them out of rice paper or sugar. There are lots of already available biodegradeable products that have similiar looks, feel and properties of plastic, I dont recall seeing any of those type products that are clear though.
If this goes through, there will be effects rippling through the entire plastics industry.

soon we will all be wearing roll off's all the time and someone will complain then outlaw them because they're dangerous due to lack of peripheral vision.
by the way someone misspelled government.

This banning stuff is getting out of hand! Have you seen that California is thinking of limiting production, or even banning dark colored cars now?? The logic is that the darker hue cars take more energy in the form of A/C in hot weather, thus using more fuel with more emission output...
Instead of idle threats and more bad news, why can't they suggest an alternative? Maybe something engineered from Soy? Who knows...

as long as we never give up the right to take up arms against an oppressive government, we will be alright. There is a limited amount of jack-assery the people will take and they seem to be pressing all the right buttons to rally the citizens against them. If you hate what your state is doing I think we all need to ban together and file exempt on taxes and take away their monthly tax monies that they squander. Just put it away and pay lump sum after you file an extension. Don't pay until the very last day. If enough people did this, I think we would get their attention.

Freedom is only one generation away from extinction. One day, I will tell my children and my children's children, how it was once like to live as a free man.

I've got it! They can make them out of protein fruit roll ups and they can shove them in their mouths and get a boost of energy.

Hmmm, tear offs lying on the ground. If you think motocross is bad try going to an oval track sometime, especially if sprint cars are running. If its dirt, the guys are going through a lot of those and even Indy Car and F-1 drivers use them. Sounds like another government idiot is trying to enlarge their kingdom again. Here's another useless battle to get involved in and once again it will probably take Congress to do something. Like they've got nothing better to do right now.

I can see where and how this might be an issue. Especially if track owners/promoters aren't arranging for the proper cleanup of these and they are blowing into the "regular world".
I would absolutely purchase a biodegradable tearoff, even if it was more expensive.
