Are you supposed to be out there walking around with your broken foot like that?
They have bears and Mountain Lions out there as well. Such predatory animals can sense and smell out the sick and wounded animals then target them for food while all the healthy ones run away leaving the sick, wounded and elderly behind to be feasted upon. Certainly while being on bed rest you've watched the Animal Planet Channel at least once and picked up on that bit of insight? If not you realy need to stop watching shows like Oprah, Dog the Bounty Hunter, and Pokemon that do no more than dumb down modern society and instead start watching some quality programing that's going to enhance your ability to think better.
Ok, I know what some of you are thinking... "What about watching Dr Phil, he's a Doctor right, must make you smarter watching his show?"
Wrong, (sorry Layne), I know you love watching Dr Phil, but when a fat guy is making millions off selling his own diet book, primitave thinking and conscious thought should take over and tell you that your part of a following of total morons who watch his show and buy his books.
You should embrace your moment of bed rest by indulging yourself in matters for further thought, of which your fortuneate enough for me to provide you with a listing of good reads to get you started...
xxx.lanl.gov/list/quant-ph/newReviewing your own comments on the matters contained within the above link I provided for you would certainly make for a far better read on your web site than the risk you've taken by possibly instead only informing all of us the downsides in trying to escape the hunger driven charge of wild predatory beasts and the impossibilities there of escaping all chances from being indulged upon at a lower than natural level within the ecological food chain of that area due to your constraints of only having one good foot to hobble on.
It's also comforting to know that the California Department of Foerstry has the available foresight to restrict and regulate such a small and insignificant portion of their over all vastness in acerage out of concern for environmental impact while they turn a blind eye on more important areas containing abandonded gold mines still leaching huge amounts of toxic waste through water ways into the Pacific ocean and the tree huggers pushing them are more concerned that your can of grocery store tuna is clearly labeled as "Dolphin Safe", yet heavy metals like mercury are ok and don't even have to be listed within the ingrediants on the label.
This is the mentality we're all up against. The maybe 20 acers of land this track utilizes is allowed to spend the majority of the year looking like this...
www.othg.org/mammoth/DSC00334.JPGinstead of being utilized to generate the huge income potential it could if opened regularly for practice and racing. That measly 20 acres they are trying so hard to preserve and maintain to instead pay for thousands and millions of acres of land to be cleaned up and go a long ways in not having "dolphin safe" cans of tuna on our grocery store shelves, but intead "mercury safe" cans of tuna. The environmental impacts of having 20 acres amongst millions set aside and regularly used for a huge income generating MX track is non existant when you consider the thousands of acres out there poisoning the natural resources of the entire world we all live in and the state of California currently doesn't have the funds available to clean up, but instead can only afford to post signs in areas of high contamination like Grass Valley for example where the water ways are dotted with signs advising you to not go near the water, "efforts are being made to clean it up", yet no such "efforts" can be seen with the naked eye, beyond the effort to only install and maintain signs warning you of the risks.
100 years from now, 10 years from now, 1 year from now, should Mammoth no longer be any form of an MX track, California certainly won't have to even spend the money for signs in the area warning people of the health risks associated, let alone have the concerns or health risks required to "clean the area up" as a result of any MX racing taking place there. We'll never see cans of "MX Safe" anything on store shelves, but the funds that could be generated from that very small area within the overall vastness of area out there could go a long ways to helping see cans of mercury safe tuna on store shelves for not just California but for the world as a whole.
People, plants and animals alike aren't being born with birth defects and brain damage as a result of tuna cans containing dolphin meat or not being "dolphin safe". It just shows you where the priorities of gross and mass ignorance will guide you. Dirt bikes on an MX track wear out a very confined amount of space that no plants are going to grow on. Yet it's ok for people on foot, bicycle or horseback to wear out trails covering thousands of miles that no plants are going to grow on. If that's not having an environmental impact from human presence on wildlife then there's several billion dollars a year being foolishly spent by hunters who pay top dollar for camoflauge and chemical scent masking to hide their own presence in the wilds. If the goal is to protect wildlife and preserve, then close areas down to all levels of human activity because it all has just as huge of an impact if any. From tree huggers camping out in trees so they won't be cut down, they're at the same time scaring off any wild life from also at that time living in that same tree and causing an environmental impact on the area.
Society as a whole has just been allowed and encouraged for too long now to just go stupid. People are spending $6K plus a year to take their freakin dogs to 'doggy day care" everyday, not to mention the additional thousands they also spend in yearly care for these same dogs. All while turning a blind eye on spending a dime towards issues that really matter and allowing children in poverished nations and the US to die from hunger and treatable diseases. 10 years from now we're going to have people taking their gold fish we use to just flush down toilets to dispose of into "goldy fish care" when they go to work so they can feel like they are having happier gold fish when they get home at night.
All of this is the level of mentality we're faced with each day and the problem isn't having cans of dolphin safe tuna on our store shelves, availability of doggy day cares, or nuclear anialation from turban wearing or cross bearing god claiming terrorists. The problem is in the current evoling degrees of disgusting idiotic moronic behavier people are not just allowed and tolerated but permitted and often encouraged to take part in everyday.
