Catchy title I am thinking about shaving my seat so I can touch the ground on my moto. Never ridden with a shaved seat so was wondering if anyone has tips on: techniques/tools to shave, opinions on using said seat to race MX. Also, does anyone have a 2009 ktm 450 seat for sale? Thanks!

I can't tell you if you would like it or not, but for the techniques/tools part, the best tool I know is Paul Mudd.

Or you could do what I do. If you have a KTM you can buy a factory 'LOW' seat. They cost about $120 for the seat ready to bolt on. I buy one with every new bike I get. Low Seat SX 2007 08-10 SX/XC/XCW KTM part # 77307040200

And there is the second best tool I know. If you need any service work on your bike, this tool above me is the one you want to talk to.

Guts racing makes custom foam seats for every application. They are the OG's of the seat business. No one better. Andy@gutsracing.com

I used to cut the seats on my road racing bikes. I used a long bread knife to cut the foam and then heated the seat in the oven and stretched the vinyl tight and used an electric stapler to re-secure the vinyl.

Thanks everyone! If I decide to cut myself I'll take everything into consideration. I don't know P Mudd except from watching him when I was younger so I can't use that tool....... Sorry Mudd easy shot. Hey Tim, I looked at gutsracing.com and couldn't find the shaved seats, I'm emailing Andy now. they're local right?

Just do it yourself i did mine with a bread knife its easy draw how much you want to cut out on the seat and follow your line with the knife. I wouldnt order a seat thats pre cut it might be to low or not low enough so you might have to cut the one you buy its easier to just do it.

I'll be buying another seat either way, I like to comfy thick foam for MX and Trails, just would like a lower seat for tooling around and my FMX...which is severly lacking in skill, lol

I have used an electric knife to do the trimming and a small grinding wheel to round the edges with great success. If you need help, stop by. I also have a pneumatic staple gun to install your cover just like the pros.
