Your an old motocrosser if you..... You know you’re an old motocrosser when you can appreciate the youthful years of shared experiences spent living and breathing to ride and race. The lifelong lessons learned to be self- reliant and that you alone were responsible for your bike, and to never quit. You know you’re an old motocrosser when you can smile remembering the joy of a hole shot, of passing someone on the outside of sweeping turn, of getting the checkered flag and knowing you will trophy. And if you were lucky, that fleeting moment of greatness if you won, be it a beginner class or pro. You’ll know you are an old motocrosser when you can appreciate the friendships that were formed of loaning a wrench or sharing a beer after race day. Yes you will know you are an old motocrosser when in older years you can put it all in perspective and know that you would not have traded the experience for anything.

Good short essay Layne! I have to admit when I saw the title I thought it would be one liners, but your writing seemed sincere and reflective of what many of us feel.
Not being one to let a brief inspiration to conjure up some one-liners just pass by, I had to get the following out of my mind:
Your an old motocrosser if you.....subconciously wish there were an air freshener tree for your pickup that smelled like two-stroke exhaust..........if you hold your hand out the window while driving pretending you are doubling mountain peaks in the distance..........if every motorcycle story includes at least one part where you make motorcycle noises to demonstrate the intensity of the moment.........If your motorcycle is the cleanest thing in your household......If you've never lubed your garage door opener with anything but chain lube........if your bathtubs' only recent use has been as a submersion area to find leaks in old innertubes.......if your "library" is a stack of 5 year old MX mags on the toilet tank........
I could go on all day..

Actually, I really cannot remember using anything but chain lube or paraffin, which was chain lube when I started, to lubricate my garage door, ever. Just to add a few to the list; "Your an old motocrosser if" you used an Earls front fork, linemen boots or a Bates desert seat. Or had 7" of travel in the front and 4" in the back.
