There are some things you should consider before voting.
The upside of the 250cc/450cc names is that they are simple, accurate and based on the tradition of naming classes by displacement. The downside is that they put an official stamp on the de-facto death of the two-stroke.
The upside of the MX2/MX1 names is that they would put the U.S. in sync with Europe and Canada, both of which attacked this problem before the United States. The downside is that they don't give clues on engine size (and some have trouble remembering which is which between MX2 and MX1.)
The upside of the Lites/Motocross names is that they are so dumb, they would make any other decisions we make seem smart by comparison. The downside is, well, you know.
The upside of the Grande/Muy Grande names is that it would help motocross reach the growing Hispanic market. The downside is that very few of the Unadilla Hill People speak Spanish.
So go ahead and vote--it will only be a few years until we have to rename them according to the voltage of the electric bikes of the future anyway.

Oh Dave! How many riders will admit to "small"! ;D ;D I do know SMRA is going to change the MX1 and MX2 class verbage in the next rule book. Butch was very forward thinking when he chose the class names and I think it was a great attempt. Too bad none of us get it! ME included Judy

MX1 ans MX2 might work in Europe, but it just isnt catching on here in the USA. The word in the industry is that the AMA is going to go back to its old names or something along them. I have to be really honest, I cant hardly remember what MX1 or MX2 is? I really have to think

That's another downside: the Euro way has a confusing progression. The entire breakdown is:
MX2=125cc MX1=250cc MX3=500cc
Since the numbers ascend in relation to prominence rather than displacement (the MX3 class is pretty obscure these days,) the system might not make much sense to an outsider.
I'm a 250/450 guy, although I'd like anything better than the current tags.

I voted Grande and Muy Grande just because I live in a house full of people who speak spanish and I got confused about making anything else as a decision seem smart by comparison. My selection may not be the best choice for all.

I think the problem has been that no one likes explaining to their uncle/girlfriend/neighbor why there are no 125cc machines in the 125cc class. It's a little confusing to those who don't know the history, and it will only get more confusing as the two-stroke fades out further.
I see 250/450 has inched ahead.

it will be cool it will be a way to tell if someone is a newbie. its like how people who arent from nevada say "nevawda". you just need a way to seperate the true hardcore riders from the newbie weekend warrior with black plastics and stickers randomly displaced around their bike.

If you've ever been at a single local event where it's been listed as MX1 and MX2 then you'd also instantly know where the problem is at in doing it that way. No one reading the race schedule has any clue what the hey they are talking about. Worse, it's full of people who think they have a clue and telling everyone the wrong information.

Very true. People just aren't as attuned to European motocross as they were in the days of DeCoster and Robert. Thus MX2 and MX1 probably look less familiar to most than Grande and Muy Grande.

I think we should wait and see what the AMA names their classes next year.
