After watching Aaron Siminoe qualify for the 250cc main in last week's Phoenix SX -- a main that his longtime competitor and fellow northern Nevada racer Brian Sjogren only narrowly missed -- I began thinking about how far those two riders may go in the sport ... which started me thinking about how far other northern Nevada locals have gone in motocross. If you needed to pick the fastest northern Nevada resident of all time, it's hard to argue against Bob Hannah, who lived in Carson City for part of his career. But when it comes to riders who grew up racing in northern Nevada -- Hannah was a transplant from Southern California -- the competition becomes much tighter. A few from my list of possible best northern Nevada-bred riders of all time ... To read the list, visit the home page, and don't forget to leave your pick below.

By the way, if you ask me, Bobby Garrison is the best racer to come out of our area -- he's raced at the front of AMA nationals and WORCS races and still absolutely rips -- and Mike Mason is hard to argue against as our top freestyler, though this area has produced a lot of great guys in that realm too.

I agree ..Bobby gets the nod..Justin Soule, Shane Espisito deserve props (more off road - but still very accomplished)
Ya gotta throw in Allen Berlut to the mix i - the brother of Tony (Tickles mechanic at RCH)
Allen had a top 100 # (one of only 3 Northern Nevadans that have ) and a top 10 ride at washougal in '81
He was gnarly ...another guy who I feel was actually a better rider and raced ALL 3 pro classes almost every weekend - won 3 AMA #1 D36 plates was a guy named Robbie Hadlock ..a true artist on a dirt bike
Anothers worth mentioning (again) the Tiearney Bros, Jimmy Nelson and Kenny Lash
We have some great talent here now as well!!! I'm excited to see how the #360 and 293 do! It's gonna be good I'm sure

I think you forgot...Jimmy Hazel Good call! Jimmy made the field at numerous AMA nationals, all while traveling as a privateer. Soule, Esposito and Lash are all worthy of note too. Great riders.

Bobby G Is the only rider that I'm aware of that finished in the top 10 at an outdoor national which he did in 2006 with a 9th overall at Glenn Helen in the 450 class which makes him the best rider we have had in my book. Plus he has also won a WIRCS race and is currently ranked #2 in Worcs

This is a tough question... we talking fastest? most accomplished racer? best career riding dirt cycles?
Fastest racers...in no real order. Robbie Hadlock, Allen Berluti, Shawn Hybarger, Jimmy Hazel, Dustin Miller, Bobby Garrison, Shaun Palmer, Mike Mason, Tim Dyer, Jeff Cloutier, Nathan and Justin Tiearney , Butch and Scott Stillmock, Rich Thorwaldson, Justin Soule, Aron Harvey, Kenny Lash.
Jesse Masterpool, was a bright raising star from our area who's career was cut short...
Most accomplished... Bobby Garrison, Mike Mason, Matt Buyten, Drake McElroy
I have a hard time picking just one... But Mike Mason prolly would be my pick. With his racing back ground of doing nationals, supercross and AX. Then his success in freestyle and speed-n-style. Bobby Garrison would be super close in this. His accomplishments in supercross, nationals and the grueling WORCS series are solid record!

Though I've met bobby garrison while riding in Spanish springs and his father while he was training, in 2005, I remember always looking for and watching Aaron Harvey rip 2006 to 2008.

We have had some amazing riders come from this area....
It's cool to see how many rippers are from the area!
Lets not forget about where Freddy could have ended up.
And also, with this list of local "Heros" I still think give credit where credit is due..,, I know he maybe never made much of any career, but I still think on a good day in his prime Tommy Jean could have beet anybody around here.
Sjogren (my bro!) Bobby G, Justin Soule, Espo, Nate, Mason, Miller, Lash , Hazel, Ferris, Nelson, Havey, josh Morros, Ross Neely, Chris Barker, Adam Conway, both Simino's...... There's lots of talent around here
Hope everyone has a great Friday!

I'll smoke you 66, cause your to busy yelling at yourself on the track, take out Gillen and all of his friends, Stop half way through the moto and eat a sandwich with Layne and Kenny Bell, And still have time to 86 Harvey. Ty will protest all of us from his golf cart, "via radio.'' Tommy Jean will say he won, even though he didnt show up till monday. Espo will get DQ'd for cutting the track. Tiearney will be hanging out with smoke dog and D LOC, but somehow look faster than everyone. The Stilmocks will be at Fernley waiting for round 2, cause everywhere else sucks and they rule there. Barker will throw his helmet and wanna kick everyones ass. Lash will be in his box van polishing his boots and hanging out with Hot Chicks. JT got the hole shot and no one has seen him since, Sean Carmichael and Daryl Chapman will be fixing there bikes and Donny Roberts is somewhere with your girlfriend. Palmer missed the race cause hes signing autographs still, Mason's laughing at Miller cause he still uses blocks at age 30 and Buytens already doing beer bongs celebrating life.
But in the end, Thorwaldson will win. He works out everyday.
