I have the results from the Over The Hill Gang race held in Fernley last weekend. I noticed that Mark Cody, MXWest board member and self proclaimed "professional beginner", rode in the 30+ Beginner class. According to Kim and the MXWest "Race Talk", Mark was bumped from the 30+ Beginner class to the 30+ Junior class in April.
According to the SMRA rulebook, "Riders applying for a SMRA card must sign up in their highest classification held in any recognized motorcycling organization". MXWest has the same rule.
What's up with that Mark? Are you sandbagging? Maybe your true title should be "professional sandbagger"?

Judy,
If your going to pick on a single rider, then you should acknowledge the fact there are dozens of other riders doing the same thing - They do slip through the system only never to be caught.
I know If I were a SMRA Rep I would not have posted this on a public forum, but would have used better judgment and went with a private email, or pm - But then again I am a retired professional.
Best of luck to you,
Jonny B.

Hi Jonny,
The reason I singled out Mark was because he is a high profile member and I hope he would set a better example. I am slowly going through the results and will be presenting several riders with new cards. You are so correct when you say there are several that slip through the system....I'll betcha' Kim didn't let many get by!
You say you are a retired professional. I don't know what sport, but I bet you followed the rules!
I addressed this on this board, publicly, because Mark publically announced that he had another group to join and continue his "professional beginner" reign.
I am not trying to pick on anyone, just let our riders know there is honor in following rules! It is the riders responsibility to sign up correctly and not wait until he gets "caught".

Judy lets set the record straight! When I joined SMRA I was a beginner in MxWestRacing. Therefore I signed up in the right class. Check your records! I raced the SMRA and MxWestRacing combined series at the dual round at Mustang as a beginner. The next race for me was Stead with MxWestRacing at which time I won that race and was bumped. The next race that the OTMX put on for the SMRA I ask you when signing up if I should race the 30+ Jr.. Your exact words were we don't bump in the middle of a series. I have never been bumped by SMRA! Please bump me now because I am out just to have fun and could care less about a plastic trophy. I joke about being a professional beginner because when I started riding dirt bikes for the first time at 44 years old I kept getting hurt. Now I am actually starting to feel like I have gotten better. It only takes a phone call Judy! Thanks! Mark P.S. Please delete all points for me and bump me to 25+, 30+ Jr.! I feel the love!

MxWestRacing 30+ Beg. Races..... 2/26, 3/5, 3/19, 3/26, 4/2 (I was bumped after this race).
It is not hard to check things out before bashing someone. You are starting to act like someone else we know!

Judy, I asked this question on the otmx board.
"In the +40 intermediate moto I only know 7 of the 10 riders that raced. 4 of them ride with the International Oldtimers as Experts and Higher. 3 of us are intermediate/amateur riders and the other 3 I don't know. One of the "Expert" Intermediate riders was sitting along the side of the track talking to a flagger when George and I came around and when he saw us he took off in between us went down a straight around a corner and pulled a perfect "Expert Move" on George taking out his front wheel injuring his leg. George and I were racing for 9th out of 10 at the time. I believe that if this rider had been in the proper class this wouldn't of happened. Aren't these riders given their "Expert" cards and their "Intermediate" cards by the same people, The Nevada Oldtimers? Maybe it would be best to keep it consistant."
This is the answer I got.
"Your concern that rider classification at the local level should be the same as in the Old Timer International series, as you know, is subject to some interpretation. There are 3 classes for +40 riders at the local races....Junior, Intermediate and Expert. +40 classification in the Old Timers is broken into 5 classifications.....Novice, Amateur, Expert, Master A and Master B. By your definition a Junior and a Novice are the same. An Intermediate and an Amateur are the same. But the problem is lumping the Old Timer Expert, Master A and Master B into the local Expert class. There will be some experts that should be in the Intermediate class."
So actually my point is are the rules being followed anyway?
Thanks Greg

Judy,
Not a problem, I understand where you are coming from. I think all sand baggers should have to start their second moto with a rear flat tire ;D
