At the gang national at the Oatfield this year I was lapped in every moto. One moto I was lapped by the 10th place rider. My lap times were so slow that I would not have trophied in the +38 beg class. At our national I went 11,10,11,12 for 12 out of 16 riders. I was beaten by several riders who just moved up from beg. I am not trying to move down. I ride 40+ jr so I ride 38+ nov in the gang. My point is that someone can ride for a long time and still be slow. I am alot slower now than I was in the 80s when I rode sportsman BEG. I expect that I will get slower as I get older. I don't know anyone who gets faster as they get older. If that were so than why do pros quit racing. Ricky should be way faster than Bubba! DeCoster should be killing those young squids at the AMA nationals.

Dear Mark, Please re-read my post. I never ever accused you of being dishonorable. I just believe that riders should ride their highest class. There is honor in that... for ALL riders! We had a few issues about your card and I did phone you. We have also had a couple of PM's about your cards. Please accept my apologies if you think I insulted your integrity, that was never my objective. I was trying to make a point. By the way...mxfarmer.....your post sounds just like something I would have said HUM Since this post has garnered so much attention, I have received e-mails from more than one rider requesting being bumped out of the beginner class. Kudos to them! You are all racers and I admire all of you. Yes, Mark, you too. To start racing at 44 is awesome! There are several of you out there. Heck, you inspire me. Maybe I will get my old Penton out and challenge you to a grudge race! Oh, I forgot...the gas is varnish, and my rear tire is flat.. .both of them! (insert the word BUMMER here!) ;D Judy

Okay, lets get real here…..the beginner class has over the years changed into being a slower junior class. It isn’t necessarily a bad thing either. People need to remember for most people that race local do it for the fun of doing it and some become very complacent in the speed and class they race. No harm or foul, it’s just something that happens. Not everybody can learn to twist the throttle and go fast or faster. If we were to force riders to move up to quickly it could result into rider racing over the heads and out of control. That could turn into them getting hurt or loosing interest in the sport and calling it quits. I had a friend named Pete and no matter how hard he worked at trying to learn to go faster, he was never quite able to catch on to it. He went to different motocross schools, had different racers try and help him but he could never make it past being a mid pack junior. It just isn’t for everybody….and the older you get it doesn’t become any easier either. I have found of the years of racing it that the guy doing the complaining is looking to improve his results be getting another racer bumped out of the class. Yeah, Mark is about ready to start racing the next class but he has mainly pointed out by racing all the time and not so much of his abilities improving. (Sorry Mark) But it’s the truth and the fact of the matter, I hope he hangs in there and he has had the taste of victory and after that its never any fun riding around in the back of the pack. The system that has worked for soooo many years works very fine and at no point will it ever be perfect either. Judy stated in her original post about the “ what is the highest class” question that is on the form to obtain a SMRA card. What about the guy who doesn’t tell the truth or use to ride the pro class and now has dropped down to the expert or intermediate or junior class and is winning that? Or a racer that rides as a higher class in a different organization a drops a class to race in our area, this is another one I like I was sure what class to ride they didn’t have the class I normally race…That should be worse, somebody who knows better, but it happens….At no point will the racing world be perfect nor will the beginner class be totally dialed. So, I say don’t b**** and do something about it within. Practice, train, ride more, get some coaching but do something to help your self get better. I do believe there is a place for local motocross to have a beginner class and its okay if some people never obtain enough ability to move out. Its about having fun, competition and friendship that are build from racing people that enjoy the same things you do. Larry, at no point would Roger Decoster be able to beat Ricky, not because of ability but do to the fact of knowledge of training, nutrition and supplements. The riders of today are much better trained athletes do to technology. Heck, Roger use to smoke for petes sake! Just look back ten years ago and see how much further riders have become in the world of professional athletes. Ricky’s trainer and chef live with him to insure he has his body in top physical shape. Bubba is now doing the same. Roger never ever thought about doing something like that…. Mark, don’t snivel you got caught and called out on it! Now you’re taking a beating on it….and who in the hell wants to be a professional beginner! Judy, Keep your old bike in the garage, you’ll just wad up! Remember at the end of the day it doesnt matter what class you rode, its important that you walked away in one piece and had fun doing so..

Thanks Judy! Mr. Moto.... I loved your entire post but I did not get caught. I did nothing wrong. I started SMRA as a beginner and have not earned the 15 points. I asked if I should race the JR. class and got told no! I asked this question right after I got bumped in MxWestRacing. There is a bright side of this tho! The part about people bumping themselves now. I agree that I need to move up and others also. I can not wait to race the Juniors at Mustang this weekend. It is not sand and I just may surprise myself & other riders.

The fact that he is 35 years older might have something to do with it. I don't think Ricky or Bubba will be so fast when they are 60. If you look at the lap times of the 60 EXP at the OT international races you will see that they are about the same as the 40 NOV . 20 years makes a big difference!

All this talk doesn't matter, HA HA, Mark, you should be ashamed of yourself. Dude, don't think for a minute had I of known OTHG was back to giving all of us real laps instead of the shortened laps I experienced at their last race I partook in had I of been there and caught you purposely sandbagging like that I would have protested it. Had I of known they were back to giving everyone good laps I would have been there too and I wouldn't of even been half as gentle on you as Judy was here.
Claim what ever and however you want, make this a huge discussion, Judy is right, shame on you Mark, there's no excuse for it.

You fruit cake, I've tried to be bumped my darndest, I so don't want to be a "beginner". Didn't I make a huge post one time saying I thought I should bump myself just because, but everybody told me not to just bump myself, instead I should earn my bump points. You guys made me feel like if I just bumped myself I'd be endangering peoples lives because I don't always do all the jumps.
You know whats really wrong with that picture you post of the Mustang race is Mike is beating me, 6 months ago when I was still able to race he rode that track and I use to spank him in practice, now during this series I get the hole shot on him everytime then he's just gone. He's spent some time working hard at getting good.
Our first Mustang race in this series Ron has proven himself as a serious adversary as well in our class, he was literally on my back tire the entire race, he was a bike length away from beating me.
We don't have bump points at Mustang, but if those placements were to apply to my MX West or Sierra bump point placements then I want to celebrate my finaly getting bumped to the next class. Mark, if you should show up and race at Mustang I'll bump myself to the Jr class just to race you. Right now we don't have any 30 JR guys showing up at Mustang so I could bump myself to that class for an easy first place trophey if I wanted it, but instead I'm hanging in the 30 beginner class just so everyone there has someone to race with, including me. We have people there who are in the 30 Jr class, but they are instead racing their other classes like Dan who's going to win his series. If you show up at Mustang to race I'll bump myself even though I don't have the points just to race you, in fact, just to race you there, I'll give you my comp entry and instead pay for my race and we'll race both 30Jr and you won't have to pay a dime. Loser between us pays $100 to the charity of the others choice.

Tony you are bumped because I am racing Mustang this weekend. I will be racing as a 30+ Junior for the first time in my life. This is a new series for me so I will sign up with my highest classification.
