Great effort but I only wish someone had told me that is was going to happen. Don't always have time to check the forums and all the sites I have book marked. Had I known, I would have made sure we at the Sparks Tribune would have covered the event. If anyone is doing anything like this please let me know. After the hatchet job the RGJ did on everyone about Hungry Valley we did a three-part series on the situation. Not everyone enjoyed what was written and I'm still trying to find the time to read all three parts. I do know that our reporter was trying to be as fair as she could. As for me, I'm waiting until the next clean up in the Hungry Valley area, which I think will be sometime in January. I intend to do a feature on that. With all the bad press that has happened lately, both the desert racers and motocross riders can use all the good press they can get. Be sure to not only let me know about these events but contact the local TV stations as well. It's going to take a good effort on education to get the word out and it will be a long campaign. Other than that, wishing all of you a very Merry Christmas and a fast, safe New Year. Dan McGee - Daily Sparks Tribune I'm waiting and will cover the next clean up out there.

I got most of the riders at Sunday's season finale for Sierra MX out in Fernley. You can see them at www.lakemanphotos.photoreflect.com. Just scroll through the pages and if you want the website is set up so you can order them online. Thanks

Got a message off the MRANN site. Unfortunately a lot of those that race in that series will either be heading or have arrived at Portola by the time the benefit for Amanda Anderson begins. Does anyone out there know where contributions can be sent or dropped off. I did check at RMS and they don't have anything, at least right now. Thanks

For those of you that read the Sparks Tribune I got the start times for a benefit for Amanda Anderson wrong. It begins at 7:30 p.m. this Friday at Club Underground. The place is on 4th Street in Reno and only about a block or so west of the Wells overpass. If you're old like me, I suggest ear plugs! And for you younger people, I'd really suggest ear plugs. Will keep the hearing aid guy away years from now. They're going to have prizes and other things. Best thing is the cost of admission is only $10. Hope to see you there. Amanda still has a long way to go but all the visits, calls, letters and other things have been a big help. Let's show her some love and support as she's got huge medical bills. Take care, see you Friday!

For those interested, I've taken a lot of photos for several events this year. I started with the final Winter series event in Fallon, two of the Silver Peak rounds and the Sierra MX event at Fernley. Once on the site you can see the photos that didn't make either the Daily Sparks Tribune or Cycle News. Whenever I'm at a race I also try to get as many shots of the younger racers and Pee Wee riders. Cant' get everyone but there is a large selection from many classes. The site is "www.lakemanphotos.photoreflect.com" and once there just look for the dates listed on the right. Last year's photos will be there until April 30. You can enlarge the proofs, and they are low rez proofs so the actual shots are sharper. If you want prints, the site is set up so you can order what you like on line. If anyone wants more than one print of a certain shot contact me personally - the information is on the site. Have fun and see you later.

Your point is well taken, at least with me. I sure wish everyone would look at the sport they apparently love and get on with the rebuilding rather than the backbiting.

I was told about this thread by Susan Soulè when I was interviewing Justin this Saturday before Christmas. Last year I wrote about the split and Layne had some pretty good comments that he let me us. Sadly it seems as though all the bad feelings are still around and just as sadly this is solving nothing. Selling Fernley, well since it's right up against a growing town, one with house prices below Reno's inflated ones, makes sense if it is to stay a race track. Ty stated it very well in his remarks. What I see is that everyone needs to take a hard look at the sport, you know the one we all love and also the one that I watched the late Rich Thorwaldson help build. Well it's in trouble now and one of the bases it's grown from is threatened. If Ty and his partner buy the place, then it will survive. Doesn't seem that anybody else can do this. If not, well just look at Fernley and we'll all have memories of the place when they plant houses or office buildings there. I think everyone needs to deflate their egos just a bit and take a hard look at things. A promoter has to make money or they are out of business. That is a fact that can't be ignored. Personally I'd like to see those that care about the sport of motocross, which has given me many memories as well as an opportunity to meet some great people, bury their respective hatchets and patch things up. Then maybe we can have the 400 riders that were showing up for a race and maybe it will be the fun time that Robert was writing about in his comments about the split. Finally, just look at motorsports in general. Splits never seem to work and this one won't either. I'd like to see people to get together and put things back together. Merry Christmas and let's hope for a good season next year. Dan McGee - Daily Sparks Tribune

Really like the calendar but sure would like it a bit better if local, well regional events gave the location. Thanks

Geez, didn't know that things were that bad. Sounds like a two-wheeled version of USAC.
